Academy Information

SRT Training Academy provides a full line of security and law enforcement related training services to the security industry, law enforcement, military and businesses throughout Texas. SRT Training Academy was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Plano, Texas. Recipients of our services range from large companies and police departments to individual private citizen. SRT Training Academy employs a variety of instructors who are specialists in their fields, which enables us to develop training tailored specifically for the customer’s needs.

The objective of SRT Training Academy, is to consistently provide state-of-the-art training to its students and clients. Every effort is made to ensure the training content is legal and valid in terms of currently accepted practices and procedures from the Texas Department of Public Safety/Private Security Bureau and Private Security community.

SRT Training Academy is an approved State of Texas Security Officer training school. We are licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety/Private Security Bureau to conduct the necessary training classes for the State of Texas, Levels II-IV security license. In addition to the Security Officer training classes, we offer training in A.D.A.P.T.™ Defensive Tactics System, Emergency Situation Response, Workplace Violence, CPR, AED and First Aid.

Our training facilities are located in Plano, Houston, and San Antonio. We also provide on-site training for businesses throughout the State of Texas. On site classes give you the flexibility to make the schedule and tailor the training to each customer. We will work around your staff’s hours, so day-to-day business is not interrupted. Earl Portnoy

Earl Portnoy is the Director of SRT Training Academy. Earl Portnoy has been involved with security and training of law enforcement, military and civilian personnel since 1973. Mr. Portnoy served as a consultant to American Airlines and the Flight Attendant Union after the 9/11 tragedy. He authored the requirements for certification of private security officers in the state of Texas. Under the Department of Justice, Mr. Portnoy has written and taught curriculum for the Bosnian government. He also developed programs, wrote curriculum and trained Federal Air Marshals, the Texas Army National Guard, local law enforcement agencies and their instructors. Earl is a certified State and Federal Law Enforcement instructor.

SRT Training Academy’s proprietary Applied Defenses and Preventative Tactics curriculum is the result of Earl Portnoy’s 30 years’ study of martial arts and over 20 years as a consultant to police departments nationwide. Mr. Portnoy saw there was a need to develop a system of self-defense that could be taught at every level of experience.
